    KDG confirms Vodafone approach

Kabel Deutschland has confirmed it has been approached by the British mobile operator Vodafone.

In a brief statement, KDG said it had received a preliminary approach by Vodafone Group PLC regarding a possible offer. “There is no certainty that any offer will ultimately made nor as to the terms on which any such offer might be made,” the company said.

Vodafone has been regularly linked with a bid for KDG since speculation first emerged in late 2008. The story reappeared early in 2010 just before KDG listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange in March 2010.
Vodafone, which finally admitted its ambition for KDG in February, confirmed it had made an initial approach, but said there was no certainty an offer would be made.

Liberty Global has also been a potential suitor, but any such ambitions seem likely to be thwarted by the German anti-trust authorities, much to the annoyance of CEO Mike Fries who believes cable has an uneven playing field compared to other platforms.
Kabel Deutschland serves 8.5 million subscribers and has 3,500 employees.
