Howto Network

Hi all , here is a howto connect to internet with DreamBox (db)
There are various ways to do it
1) through a router network
2) through a pc network
3) direct connect to modem. ( I dont expain this)

1) using a router to make the connection is the best solution ,
but its also expencive .
This is useally very easy to setup .

2) the more dificult way 1pc with 2 network cards and
cross over cable ( patchcable)
Keep all settings on you 1 network card that allready
connects to internet .

Setup 2. install drivers etc for 2. network card and use builtin feature called ICS = Internet Connection Sharing
In windows changde settings for new networkcard with a fixed ip adress in the Internetprotokol (TCP/IP) mark Use this Ip-adress
type in here eg. 192.168.0.1
Submask : 255.255.255.0
Standardgateway : same as on netcard 1


This is meant as a cheap sollution and a alternativ to router.

how to change network settings on dreambox
1 press menu bottom go to (6) settings press ok
scroll down to Expert settings press ok
press on communikations
here you can changde ip adress netmask type nameserver gateway
check sign ad network and port.

In order to fill this correct first run the comand run type cmd press enter

Ip adress 192.168.0.10 (could be within 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.99 and

Nameserver 192.168.0.1

and checksign i network
use port 80

Hi all , here is a link to a site that descripe howto make ICS .



You need 2 network cards in pc to create ICS , card no 1 to connect to internet and card no 2 to make a internal network .

With ICS the internal network can acces internet through the netcard that is connected to internet .

Here is a short howto !

Dreambox can easy be attached to a router with lan cable and NOT twisted pairs !!

Use check mark in dhcp in dreambox network setting and write down the network settings .

Then uncheck dhcp and use the ip optained when dhcp was active .

If the ip look like this xxx.xxx.x.2 (x = your no,) change 2 to a higher no eg
xxx.xxx.x.10 .

Why ? you may ask . Because dhcp could assign the ip off your dreambox ( if it is turned of ) to another attached device eg other pc / laptop or gaming device.

Is there a "How to" out there for the above ??
Heres my problem i cant connect via my pc to the net because i connect via usb and wifi to a communal router
So i thought id try via one of the recognized usb dongles i have a ZyXEL G-202
but that does not seem to work so i thought to be safe id try another with a different chipset ie the Asus WL-167G v.2 no luck with this either to the point where i cannot even get the Wlan interface up in the "Network" as per this tut i found in German

But hey all you do is follow the icons...but at the last hurdle the interface for the Wlan is not there on my 4.7 image
So heres a question???? all the dongles in the list

Have been tested and work :rolleyes:which one was the first ??
Would i be right in saying some are more superior than others and therefore might contain pre-programmed chipsets that activate the Wlan Interface and any dongle tried after would work ?
As you can see ive done my reading before making this post and theses are some of my thoughts
Any body got any ideas thoughts ?
